Kisumu RFC captain Reinhart Ashioya has called on his teammates to shrug off the disappointing 89-0 loss to Kabras Sugar on their Kenya Cup return and focus on their next fixture against Nondescripts at the weekend.

Speaking to Standard Sports, Ashioya said his side’s loss to the millers was a wake-up call, insisting that there is still time for the team to rebuild and improve.

“We are very disappointed with the loss in Kakamega. We let our fans down, but we took it as a lesson. Our now focus on rebuilding our confidence,” Ashioya said.

“The team has been training well and we are working on correcting our defensive mistakes we made in Kakamega and we are going to be aggressive when we welcome Nondies over the weekend at home.”

The lakeside outfit, who were returning to the Kenya Cup since their relegation during the 2013-14 season, failed to register a single point against Kabras and head coach Brian Makalama admitted his side will be seeking some improvement.

“We need to bounce back at home against Nondies for us to have our winning spirit back. Kenya Cup is a tricky tournament and very competitive unlike the championships, which means we need to improve on our game and go for the win,” said the former Western Bulls coach.

However, Nondies, who lost 26-14 to Impala Saracens, will not be an easy opponent to face.
