Khilan triumphs in Nyeri

Handicap 11 Khilan Shah is the overall winner of the CIC golf tournament played at the par 72 Nyeri Golf Club over the weekend.
Khilan carded an identical score of 20 stableford points on both nines for a round total of 40 to prevail over a field of 85 golfers at the daylong tournament.
The field saw golfers from host Nyeri Golf Club, Nanyuki Sports Club, Nyahururu Golf Club, Nakuru Golf Club among others as clubs battled it out for the array of prizes that were up for grabs.
“I did not come out here with the hope of winning despite the fact that I have been playing some good golf over the past couple of months. The win is more of a suprise,” said Khilan of his win.
“I’m left-handed and I played alongside Rose Komu, today’s Lady winner, who is also left handed. It seems it was a day for ‘left-handers’ to triumph,” Khilan added.
On a score of 37(19+18) stableford points playing off handicap 13, Gerald Gakima of Kenya Railways Golf Club was the Men winner. Father Mbutu Githinji playing off handicap 12 settled for Men Second prize on a score of 36(17+19) stableford points.
Lady winner prize went to a handicap 35 Rose Komu on a score of 38 (20+18) stableford points as Mercy Mburu playing off handicap 19 bagged Lady second prize on a score of 33(16+17) points.
Nakuru Golf Club’s Raphael Kimani playing off handicap eight was the best Guest on a commendable score of 38(18+20) stableford points.
Nanyuki Sports Club’s chairman Gabriel Miungi won the First Nine prize with 20 stableford points as the Second Nine prize went to immediate past Nyeri Golf Club chairman Elijah Nguyo with a score of 20 stableford points.
In the commercials, Raphael Kimani won the Longest Drive Men prize as Mercy Mburu won the Longest drive prize in the ladies’ category.
Four twos were recorded by; William Kagia, Nyeri Golf Club chairman Arthur Muchiri, Gerald Gakima and James Njega with each of them winning 19 golf balls each.
