Danny Drinkwater has joined Burnley on a five-month loan from Chelsea.

The former Leicester City midfielder becomes Burnley’s fourth summer signing after making only 23 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since joining them in a £35million deal in August 2017.

Announcing the deal in a statement on their official website, the club confirmed that Drinkwater successfully underwent a medical in Burnley on Thursday.

"Burnley Football Club is delighted to have completed the capture of Danny Drinkwater to add another Premier League winner to their squad,’’ read the statement.

"Drinkwater – a key player in Leicester City’s epic 2016 title triumph – has joined the Clarets on loan from Chelsea in a deal running until 6 January."

The 29 year-old also revealed that he is eager to grab the fresh start afforded to him by Burnley with both hands, after joining the Clarets on a half-season loan deal.

Drinkwater said: “There’s no better way of describing it and I am looking forward to cracking on. It feels good to be home and now I just want to concentrate on my football.

“From the people I’ve met so far, this feels like a nice family club with down to earth people and staff, and that helps.

“When you are happy, that’s when you take it onto the field and play your best football.”

He added of his time at Stamford Bridge: “It was a bit of a complicated time at Chelsea, but I see this as a positive move and I’m looking forward to getting going.”

Drinkwater signed a contract that was believed to pay him more than Sh12.5 million a week but reportedly had a hard time to play in the first team.
