Shimba, Kwale Girls lift football crowns

Defending champions Shimba Hills School from Kwale County beat former champions Serani of Mombasa to retain boys’ under 19 football title as Coast Region Secondary Schools Term Two Games ended yesterday.

Reigning East Africa and national football champions Kwale Girls also retained their under 19 crown after they defeated St John’s Kaloleni 1-0.

Shimba Hills beat Mombasa Boys 3-0 at Malindi High School in Kilifi to reclaim the football title. Shimba Hills opened the score sheet in the seventh minute through Juma Ali before Jumaa Mohammed scored the second goal in the 13th minute.

Serani resumed the second half with renewed determination but they could not penetrate Shimba Hills’ tight defence. Yehya Omar dashed Serani’s dreams in the 80th minute and sealed Shimba Hills spot in national championships.

En route to the finals, Shimba humbled Kaya Tiwi School 4-0 while Serani edged out Mariakani School 5-1.

Serani beat Kwale High 4-3 to win boys' under 16 title in extra time after a 3-3 draw at the regular time.

In girls' under 19, Gladys Shikophe’s third minute goal was enough for Kwale Girls to retain the title.

In semi finals, Kwale Girls dismissed Mitangani 5-2 while St John’s Kaloleni beat Waa Girls 3-1 in post penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

Waa Girls retained girls' under 16 football title after dismissing Mnyenzeni 3-0. Shimoni of Kwale and Kilifi’s St John’s Kaloleni defended boys’ and girls’ volleyball titles.
