Schools: Stage set for Rift Valley primary school games

As the Rift Valley primary school regional games head to Makutano Primary School in West Pokot from June 9-14, organisers have released fixtures for teams ahead of the one-week sports extravaganza.

The games, which involve football, volleyball, netball and handball has seen Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Bomet and Uasin Gishu grouped in Pool A in boys’ football.

Pool B has Kericho, Samburu, Laikipia and Kajiado, while Pool C has Turkana, Narok and Baringo, according to the fixtures released by Rift Valley Primary Schools Sports Association Secretary general Mamai Etyang’.

Pool D has Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet and hosts West Pokot.

In girls’ football, Turkana, Nakuru, Bomet and Baringo are in Pool A while Pool B has West Pokot, Narok, Laikipia and Kajiado.

Pool C has Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet, while Pool D consists of Nandi, Kericho and Samburu.

According to Etyang, team officials are required to report on June 9 for registration ahead of a workshop to update themselves with the tournament’s rules.

Teams are expected to report on June 10, before paving way for the tournament that begins on June 11-14.

He said only pupils born before September 2004 will be eligible to feature in the ball-games.

“We’ll strictly follow the given age limits because we do not want to encourage age cheating in our programs,” he said.

“No overage player will be allowed to take part in the games,” he added.

In boys’ volleyball, Nandi, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet and Nakuru are in Pool A with Pool B consisting of Turkana, Bomet, Narok and Uasin Gishu.

Trans Nzoia, Kericho and West Pokot are in Pool C while Pool D has Laikipia, Samburu and Kajiado.

Uasin Gishu, Kajiado, Samburu and Narok are in Pool A of girls’ volleyball while Pool B has Bomet, Nakuru, West Pokot and Kericho.

Pool C has Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet and Turkana while Pool  D has Baringo, Narok and West Pokot.
