Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League last night - and their players have not been spared the hairdryer treatment this morning.

As Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's men arrived back in England to lick their wounds, publication across the continent have been giving their views on the flops.

Renowned French daily newspaper L'Equipe has led the way, picking out five players who failed to make the grade at the Nou Camp.

Phil Jones, who was given the runaround by two-goal hero Lionel Messi, was branded "terrible" after twice being strung up like a kipper by the superstar.

David De Gea was at fault for Messi's second goal, a week after his heroics in the first leg, and was picked out for that very blunder. Otherwise, however, the Spaniard was powerless as Barca cruised.

Fred, who has been in and out of the United side this season, impressed L'Equipe in parts with his technical play but they deemed that insufficient. The Brazilian also struggled against Messi and also came off second best against his countryman Philippe Coutinho.

Anthony Martial was given the thumbs up - for his performance in the first five minutes. The Frenchman, however, failed to make an impact up against Sergi Roberto and was replaced by Diogo Dalot.

Last but not least. Ashley Young was criticised for losing his own duel with Messi, although he was commended for never giving up the fight.

After the defeat, Solskjaer admitted he faces a major rebuilding job this summer and beyond.

He said: "We did well to get here and you could see the difference between the two teams.

"We know there's work to be done. I've said all along this isn't going to change overnight and the next few years are going to be massive for us to get to the level where Barcelona and other teams are at the moment.

"We have to look at ourselves, we know we have a job to do and we are getting on with it.

"We need to get the best out of each other, create an environment of world-class attitude every single day. Because we've got good players and I've got good players to work with.

"We've done really, really well to get to the quarters and challenge for the top four.

"So we've got a rebuilding job but it starts with the coaches and players, and of course one or two additions to the squad will happen in the summer."
