Schools: Officials to inspect venues ahead of national games

Top Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association officials will today inspect venues and villages set to host Term One games, in Mombasa.

Coast Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary Omar Munga said the team will visit all playgrounds and villages that will accommodate the students.

The team will tour Shimo La Tewa High School and Shanzu Teachers Training College, which will host basketball, rugby, hockey, handball and athletics. The team will also go to Oshwal Academy, venue for swimming.

The games run from April 8 to 13 with all the eight regions represented in the one-week championships.

Meanwhile, Coast Region boys’ basketball representatives Aga Khan Academy are optimistic of performing better than last year.

“We are focused to make it better that last year,” said team coach Jimnah Kimani after retaining the Coast region title at Shimo La Tewa High School last week.

Last year, Aga Khan finished fifth but Kimani said with their current form, they are focused of making it to the final.

“All teams at the national games are equally good and no side should be underrated,” said Kimani, who is also the head coach of 3x3 junior national team, which will take part in the National Olympic Committees of Africa (Anoca) Zone V games in Huye, Rwanda from Monday to April 6.

Kimani said they will not to let their fans down. “We need to give our supporters the best.”
