The national under-23 team is currently in Sudan for tomorrow’s 2020 Olympic qualifier.

Kenya qualified for the second round after humiliating Mauritius in the first round and are now eying a place not just in next year’s Olympic games in Japan, but also the All-Africa Games to be held in Morocco this October.

Emerging Stars coach Francis Kimanzi is optimistic his side will give a good account of themselves in Khartoum.

“We did well against Mauritius and it’s good that we have retained a big part of that squad. The boys are motivated and I am confident we’ll get a positive result,” he said moments before departure.

The first leg will be played today, with the second leg set to be played next Tuesday at Kasarani.

The winner on aggregate will face either Nigeria or Libya in the third round to determine who graces the 2019 Africa U23 Cup of Nations in Egypt, which will act as a qualifier to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan.

Sudan, on the other hand, edged out Seychelles in the first round to book a date with Kenya.

Sudan coach Zradvko Logarusic is familiar with Kenyan players having handled Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards in the SportPesa Premier League and clearly will bank on his inside knowledge of the Kenyans.
