Basketball champions Kaya Tiwi retain title for fourth time

National girls’ basketball champions Kaya Tiwi retained title for the fourth time as the Coast region secondary schools Term One games ended at Shimo La Tewa High School yesterday.

The winners will represent the region in national term one games set for the same venue on April 8-13.

In girls’ hockey, St Johns Kaloleni of Kilifi emerged new champions after they beat immediate former champions Bura Girls 1-0 where Zara Akosa scored the lone goal in the 50th minute.

Enroute to the final, St Johns whitewashed Mombasa’s MacMillan 8-0 while Bura defeated Matuga 2-0. In boys’ hockey, St Charles Lwanga reclaimed the title after they beat St Georges of Kilifi 4-1 on flicks after a 1-1 draw at regular time.

Kaya Tiwi retained the title after they humiliated Bura of Taita Taveta county 122-5. Diana Babra and captain Yvonne Atieno bagged 26 and 20 points for Kaya Tiwi respectively. Shimba Dama scored four points for Bura.

In boys’ basketball, Mombasa’s Aga Khan Academy retained the title after dismissing Mombasa Baptist 67-44 while White House School of Taita Taveta county recaptured boys’ and girls’ handball titles. White House beat Shimo La Tewa 17-15 in boys’ final while girls’ team beat Manjejeni school from Kilifi county 15-11.

In rugby 15s, Kwale High emerged new champions after they defeated immediate former champions Galana from Kilifi county 15-3.
