Manchester United's Champions League hopes have been handed a boost with Paris Saint-Germain confirming that Neymar is a major doubt for their last 16 tie due to injury.
The Brazilian superstar left the field in tears during PSG's 2-0 win over Strasbourg in the French Cup on Wednesday night.
It had been suggested that the 26-year-old had initially suffered an injury to his right ankle.
But initial examinations have confirmed that Neymar has a "reactivation of the lesion of the fifth right metatarsal," the severity of which will only be decided in the next few days.
It is the same metatarsal Neymar fractured last February, an injury that subsequently required surgery and ended his club campaign.

"Neymar is worried, because it's the same foot, the right foot, in the same area," PSG boss Thomas Tuchel told reporters after the game.
The German coach also criticised the match official: "The referee didn't whistle on one occasion, then two, then three and after that, he ended up twisting his foot."
The French giants take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Red Devils on February 12 at Old Trafford.
Neymar now faces a race against time to prove his fitness before that match at best.
But there are major worries in the French capital that he could be forced under the knife for the second time in 12 months.
