Migne says Gor tour was reality check for Kenyans

Harambee Stars coach Sebastian Migne says the result of Tuesday’s friendly match between Gor Mahia and English Premier League side Everton is a reflection of local football standards.

The Kenyan champions lost 4-0 to Everton in a a friendly which was also called the Sportpesa Super Cup match.

“It was clearly a difficult match for Gor Mahia in every way but it helped show how much we need to do.

“The match helped us see the reality of where we are and any other result would have been deceitful,” he said.

Migne (pictured below) however said there are some positives to be drawn from the fixture and he was particularly happy that national team players were able to pick some valuable experience from the tour.

“I am happy that none of my players were injured ahead of the upcoming matches and because they also picked up some things that will be useful when back with Harambee Stars,” he said.

The coach further called for a radical improvement of stadiums in the country saying the poor state is worrying.

“A good pitch is the main ingredient for good football, but sadly we only have Kasarani. It is difficult to find a good pitch for training sessions and the government and all stakeholders need to look into it.

“Perhaps we can look into constructing artificial pitches as a stop gap measure to provide a solution to the current crisis,” he said.

The Frenchman said he still expects to play Sierra Leone on November 18 and is focused on getting a good result to help Kenya qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.

“Though Sierra Leone are suspended by Fifa we are still preparing for them and are determined to get a good result against them.”

There has been no word from CAF about the fate of Sierra Leone with less than ten days before they take on Kenya. Furthermore, CAF has not made any referee appointments for the match.
