UEFA charge Romania for fans' racist behaviour

The Romanian Football Federation has been charged by UEFA for fans’ racist behaviour and setting off of fireworks in Sunday’s Nations League match against Serbia which ended 0-0, European soccer’s governing body said on Tuesday.

Numerous flares were lit at Bucharest’s national stadium, and photos and footage on social media appeared to show Romania fans engaging in racist chanting and displaying banners linking refugees to terrorism.

UEFA said that the charges also included field invasions by supporters and that its Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body would rule on the case on Oct. 25.

Sanctions could include closing stadiums to supporters for future fixtures, which include a Nations League match against Lithuania next month.
