WOLVES? Five possible destinations for Mourinho if he is sacked

The axe hasn't quite fallen just yet, but it is hovering over him.

Mirror Sport have exclusively revealed that Jose Mourinho will be sacked after Manchester United's game with Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, regardless of the result.

The move comes after a dismal start to the season at United, where they have failed to win a home match in any competition since the opening day of the season and are winless in their last four.

Mourinho will pack his stuff up and leave The Lowry Hotel shortly then, but - after what surely needs to be a break until next summer - where will he go next?

Here are five places he could turn up in next year.

Juventus

Juve boss Max Allegri has admitted that he was tempted by the Real Madrid job in the summer, and as he already seems set to win a fifth straight Serie A title even this early in the season he might be ready to move on to another challenge.

The Turin giants - who are probably pushing the most for a European Super League as they grow weary of local competition - set their stall out with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer, and might see Mourinho as the next star name they can attract to boost their profile.

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG only just appointed Thomas Tuchel in the summer, but while Ligue 1 victory is almost certain he's found himself in a tough Champions League group along with Napoli and Liverpool.

Failure in that competition - the one Neymar wants to win all by himself - might get tongues wagging in the French capital, and it probably wouldn't take many flutterings of Mourinho's eyebrows for them to throw money at him.

Inter Milan

Under new ownership, Inter have started the season with a couple of defeats and are already eight points off perennial champions Juve.

Better was expected of Luciano Spalletti's men this season, and so a return to the club where he won the 2010 Champions League could appeal to Mourinho.

They are also pretty much the only major club he's managed where he hasn't burned his bridges, with a Mourinho banner visible behind the goal during the recent Champions League win over Tottenham.

Wolves

It would be mightily harsh on the excellent Nuno, but could Jorge Mendes make a move to position his No.1 managerial client into a comfy job in the Midlands next season?

Working together with his agent, Mourinho would love the smooth relationship he'd enjoy when it came to talking transfers, and he's already proved this season that he's comfortable in the middle reaches of the Premier League...

Portugal

Maybe Jose could do with leaving the rough and tumble of club football behind?

Fernando Santos won Euro 2016 with Portugal, but it is highly unlikely to ever get any better for him than that, and so if Mourinho fancies some international duty then he might well jump at the chance to take over.

It'd seem like a quieter life for him anyway.
