Sony Sugar continued with their resurgence in the SportPesa Premier League by beating hosts Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 at Camp Toyoyo yesterday for a fifth consecutive victory.

A brace from high-flying Enock Agwanda helped Patrick Odhiambo’s men inflict a fifth defeat in a row on struggling Sharks sparking protest by a section of Kariobangi fans calling for coach William Muluya’s sacking.

The two teams came into the fixture on a contrasting form. While the millers are enjoying a purple patch of four-game winning run, Muluya’s side was enduring a horrendous run of form after losing all their last four fixtures.

Kariobangi Sharks fans demanded for the axing of the young coach and went after him at full time.

“Several losses is a hard one for us but maybe it is good for the confidence,” Muluya said after the match.

“The fans have the right to express their views. What I understand about the fans is that they come to the stadium to be entertained and that entertainment is the scoreline. So, when you are not getting it right, they have the emotions which need to be expressed.

Sony Sugar went ahead when the burly Agwanda broke the deadlock in the 34th minute from the spot before doubling the lead on the hour mark to take his season tally to eight goals.

The first half chance of the game fell for Sharks, but George Abege failed to punish his former club following Bolton Omwenga’s delivery before he missed another golden scoring opportunity.

After missing several opportunities, the visitors got the lead in the 34th minute through Agwanda’s penalty kick after Apudo was hacked down in the box by John Kuol.

The sugar millers, winners of the league in 2006, could have gone into the break with a two goal cushion only for Mathews to pull off a fine save to deny Stephen Ouma.

Agwanda then pounced on Ouma’s 64th minute clever flick to seal the win for the on-form Nyanza based outfit. [Rodgers Eshitemi]
