KPA lift golf title ahead of Kecoso Games as handicap 31 Rachel Alwala of Communications Authority lifts ladies's trophy

Victory: Yobesh Oyaro defeats a field of 130 players to set the ball rolling for the defending champs
Defending champions Kenya Ports Authority have already taken a lead after winning the golf title in the Kenya Communications Sports Organizations (KECOSO) games that officially begin in Kakamega on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 12 and with a score of 30 stableford points after posting 20 in the first nine and 13 in the back nine, KPA’s Yobesh Oyaro defeated a field of 130 players to set the ball rolling for the Coastal team in their bid to win back-to-back titles and retain the Mawasiliano Shield.
Finishing second was KPA’s Charles Odoo, who posted 32 points with a score of 17 in the first nine and 15 in the back nine ahead of Communications Authority’s Philip Kiplagat, who had 30 points.
Handicap 31 Rachel Alwala of Communications Authority won the ladies' category of the golf championships with a score of 26 points after beating handicap 16 Terry Odoo of KPA on countback.
Odoo (Terry) later emerged the longest drive winner.
Playing off handicap 36, KPA’s Fiona Mbandi finished third with 25 points.
So far, almost all parastatals, who are regular participants of the eight day-tournament, have confirmed participation.
Teams that will do duty in the championships include KPA, Kenya Maritime Authority, Kenya Ferry Services, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and Kenya Film Classification Board, Communication Authority of Kenya and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation.
Others are parent ministries of parastatals that include Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture, Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology and Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.
The championships will be officially opened on Saturday by Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication Technology, Joe Mucheru.
According to KECOSO Public Relations Manager Charles Odoo, every team is ready for the showpiece, which has attracted several key players, who feature for various teams in various top leagues.
“We have done our best to host a successful tournament and this will be displayed over the weekend through participants who are willing to travel to defend their different titles,” Odoo told Standard Sports.
Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, under the chairmanship of Cyrille Wanyongo, will hosts the tournament that has Kwese Television as one of their sponsors.
