Jamie Carragher says only Lionel Messi is capable of producing what Mohamed Salah did against Tottenham.

The Egyptian looked to have won the Reds the game at Anfield on Sunday with a brilliant slaloming run and powerful finish to put them 2-1 up in the 91st minute. However, Spurs were awarded a controversial penalty - their second of the game - just moments later, from which Harry Kane secured a 2-2 draw .

But Carragher claims that his former side's loss of two points shouldn't take away from the quality of Salah's goal - his second of the game after he opened the scoring in just the third minute.

"The only (other) man who can score that goal is Messi," said Carragher on Sky Sports.

"If you think of Messi scoring goals, that's what he does in the tight areas and dinks it over the goalkeeper."

Salah has now hit 28 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions in his maiden Liverpool season, and Graeme Souness - another former Reds great - also saluted him.

"There is so much to admire about this: his strength, his change of direction and his low centre of gravity," said Souness.

"If you look at Salah, he can resist a challenge. He looks to have really powerful thighs. He can change direction very quickly."

Salah's manager Jurgen Klopp was also full of praise for the Egyptian.

"It was a fantastic goal, it was an outstanding goal, it was an outstanding performance," he said.

"He was a threat the whole 90 minutes that's true."

Liverpool have now leapfrogged Chelsea from the third position with 51 points and two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspurs. Fourth-placed Chelsea is meeting Watford away tonight as they seek to move third and bounce back from a 3-0 drubbing by Bournemouth in mid-week fixture.
