Zachary Wambugu braved heavy rains to claim the Resolution Insurance golf day title at the par 72 Nyeri Golf Club over the weekend.

Playing off handicap 18, Wambugu returned a solid score of 25 stableford points from the outward nines before collapsing at the turn as the skies opened up.

The golfer managed a paltry 14 points on the inward nine for a total score of 39 stableford points and prevail over the 111 golfers, who took part.

“The weather today was fantastic on my first nine but I collapsed when it began to rain," said Wambugu.

"I should have been 50 points if it didn’t rain."

The ever-smiling Wambui Kimathi, playing of handicap 33, carded 32 (14+18) stableford points to don the Ladies' medal to edge out handicap 4 Stella Mwangi on countback.

Mwangi finished second with 32 (16+16) stableford points, while Mercy Mburu, playing off handicap 20, took Ladies third prize on 31 (14+17) stableford points.

Men second prize went to Mwangi Gathu, playing off handicap 8, on a score of 38 (19+19) stableford points, Father Wangai, playing off handicap 10k carded 35 (18+17) stableford points to take Men third prize.

Paul Orawo, playing off handicap 7, won the Guest prize on a score of 37 (21+16) stableford points, handicap +1 Samuel Njoroge of Railways club won Guest second with 34 (17+17) stableford points as A. Omooria, playing off handicap 6, settled for Guest third with 32 (19+13) stableford points.

James Wanjohi, playing off handicap 24, bagged the Staff prize on a score of 24 (12+12) stableford points and handicap 7 Daniel Weru took the 1st nine prize with 20 stableford points. [Mose Sammy]
