Zlatan Ibrahimovic is heading to the US later this month for a check-up on his injured knee.

And the Swede plans to drop in on his former Manchester United pals during their pre-season tour.

Ibra, 35, is booked in to see surgeon Freddie Fu in Pittsburgh.

And he hopes to get the green light to step up his rehab, keeping him on target for a return to action before Christmas, according to the Sun

The striker who hit 28 goals for United last term suffered the injury against Anderlecht in April.

He officially left the club in June but United are allowing Ibrahimovic to train at Carrington and he has not given up hope of landing a fresh contract at Old Trafford once he is fit.

Boss Jose Mourinho has left the door open for a comeback, saying: “Why not wait for such a good player that gave us so much?”

Ibrahimovic is also set to reject a £6million-a-year contract offer from LA Galaxy to wait on a new deal from the Red Devils.
