Wanyama named ‘Chapa Dimba’ ambassador

Harambee Stars captain and Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Victor Wanyama has been appointed the official ambassador for the ‘Chapa Dimba na Safaricom’ football challenge set to kick-off in August 2017.

The Sh100m tournament in its second edition after the initial Sakata Ball tournament was struck off in 2012 will see the winners in both boys’ and girls’ category (aged 16-20 years) walk away with Sh1m each.

In addition, the winners of the finals slated for March 2018, will be given a once in a life-time one-week trip at Wanyama’s English Premier League club, in London.

“It is great to see such a noble initiative by Safaricom. If we can run it for a long time, we can create many more stars in the future. I believe there is more talent in the grassroots,” Wanyama said.

“It is the dream of each young footballer to go to England either as a player or to watch the game. It will be a good experience for the winning team and I am looking forward to meet them in London.”

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore was equally excited on their return to the local football scene as he explained Wanyama’s appointment.

“We chose Victor (Wanyama) as our ambassador because he presents all the values that we believe in. He is hard-working and committed. It is very rare to find a footballer who is as dedicated and disciplined like him.

“Some people feel intimated by Safaricom, once we are in space they back out. We are humbly encouraging more people to come on board and help us deliver more Wanyamas,” Collymore said.

FKF president Nick Mwendwa said the onus in on his office to successfully implement the project.
