Basketball: Mourning Nakuru Club lie in wait for Zetech

Visiting Zetech University will tackle hosts Nakuru Club in a Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) men’s Division One match at Menengai High School this morning. Nakuru Club, who are mourning after losing their former coach Sejo Delewa who passed away on Monday said the match will be dedicated to their former tactician.

Even though Zetech has had a splendid run in the league where they gained promotion this year, there is a lot to worry about as the hosts have been on form of late, winning their last four encounters at the venue.

“We just have  just gained promotion from Division Two, we have never tackled Nakuru Club before, we hope to do so when we meet them for the first time. We have done our homework well and nothing will stop us from nipping the two points,” Zetech coach Maurice Obilo said. Zetech so far are placed second in the league with 12 points. Out of the seven matches played, the varsity side has lost two (to Barclays and Kenyatta University) and has won the rest of the fixtures against World Hope,Strathmore,Eldonets, Kenya Airports Authority(KAA) and Nebulas.

Despite losing his two players, Faim Juma and Jonathan Kizito who gained promotion to the senior team in the KBF men’s Premier League, Obilo is confident that his three new recruits would be up to the task to fill the void left by the duo in their Nakuru outing.

“Our hope is to make it to the premier next season just like our senior team did last season,” Obilo stated.

“We have done our preparation and are focused on this particular match since we have dedicated it to Delewa. Zetech should be in for a rude shock in our backyard,” Nakuru Club coach Richard Kanda said.

Nakuru Club were relegated last season. They started off the Division One League on a wrong footing losing their first four games to Strathmore (walkover), Nebulas, Eldonets and Barclays.

Nakuru Club also have won their subsequent four fixtures against KAA, Upperhill, World Hope and Lakeside.
