Battle as teams clash in league: Hockey Clubs in early chase for title

Hockey giants Butali Sugar Warriors take on Kenyatta University Vultures in the Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League at City Park Stadium today.
The encounter is one of the 13 matches on the cards today and tomorrow in Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa.
Warriors, who lie third on the log, are seeking to reduce point difference between them and arch-rivals Kenya Police.
Police, who will also be in action tomorrow against Nairobi Sikh Union, top the table with 24 points after eight outings. Warriors have also had unbeaten run as they seek to reclaim the title they lost to Strathmore University Gladiators last season.
“We are prepared to take home maximum points. We are improving with every match because of the consistent fixture,” said Kenneth Nyongesa, the Warriors captain.
Defending Champions Strathmore Gladiators are chasing their second victory of the season against Chase Sailors. Gladiators, who have had a rough ride, are struggling and have six points from six matches.
Greensharks, who are second on the table, will play Nakuru in another men’s Premier encounter tomorrow.
Sharks have 17 points from eight outings, having won five, drew two and lost one.
Fresh from an emphatic 5-0 win against Mombasa Sports Club ladies, United States International University of Africa (USIU-A) Spartans take on Vikings today before a date with Sliders tomorrow.
In another women’s tie, Amira Sailors seek a win against KU Titans to move to second spot. They lie fourth on the log with 11 points behind champions and league leaders Telkom Orange (18), second placed Strathmore Scorpions (13) and Jomo Kenyatta university of Agriculture and Technology JKUAT) who have 12.
Kabarak University will take their battle for a premier league promotion to Kisumu, where they slug it out with Kisumu Youngsters today. They will play Bay Club tomorrow in men’s National League.
Mvita XI will host debutants Gorilla in Mombasa while Parkroad Tigers play Impala in Nairobi.
