Strathmore University men’s handball team coach Peter Mwathi is confident of retaining the Kenya Universities Sports Association national title when the games start today at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

Mwathi believes his squad is ready for the challenge after they defeated Kenya Defence Forces 25-23 to lift the 2017 Kenya Handball Federation Super Cup title.

The tactician said the Super Cup title has lifted the team’s spirit.

“We have prepared well for the nationals. We won the Super Cup, which is a big motivator to us. It will not be easy for us because other teams will come out strongly against us. We have been having a great season and our new players will surely work towards the success of the team.”

Strathmore are drawn in Pool ‘A’ alongside Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) and Kenyatta University’s Kitui Campus.

Technical University of Kenya are in pool B with Pwani and Maseno University, while St. Paul’s are in pool C that also has University of Eldoret and MMUST. Mount Kenya top Pool D together with Southern Eastern Kenya University and Egerton Njoro.

In women’s category, Mount Kenya are in Pool A alongside Pwani, Egerton Njoro. MMUST, Embu and University of Nairobi are in pool B.
