MAKAU SURVIVES ON COUNT BACK: Wins Nyali trophy after rolling eight level pars and mixed bogeys

Home club’s Dominic Makau survived narrowly to win the Club trophy on a two way count-back score of 36 stableford points at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country course in Mombasa at the weekend.

The handicap 13 golfer, who was also the club’s former captain rolled a total of eight level pars, four in each nine and played the rest of the 18 holes with mixed bogey shots to snatch the lead.

“This was a tough event, and unexpectedly, I took the victory,” said Makau.

Makau survived after tying on points with handicap 15 club mates Edwin Miano, who was the runner up and handicap 03 William kaguta, who claimed the third slot.

At the par 72 Kiambu course, the 2017 Urithi Co-operative Society event was won by home club’s handicap 23 Douglas Mwaura on a score of 38 points.

Clubmate Eliud Kamau playing off handicap 24 was the Men’s winner on a two way count back score of 37 points.

He had tied with club mates, handicap 17 Francis Nyaga, who was the runner up and handicap 5 Stephen Kiaro who placed third.

Kiambu’s Grace Kibe playing off handicap 20 was the Lady winner beating her club mate handicap 25 Njoki Nderitu to the runners up slot by a two point’s difference.

Thika’s handicap 19 S.Njayakio, who had the best day’s score of 40 points was the guest winner while home club’s Michael Karanga went away with the gross title on a two-over par of 76 gross.

At the seaside Mombasa course, handicap 22 M.Walji was leading on 69 nett in the first round of the 2016 Captain’s (J.Murimi) prize tournament.

The two-day event that ended last evening was jointly sponsored by DSTV, Set the Tone, Amotech and Gertrude’s Children.

Handicap 12 Mburu Kariuki was placed second by yesterday on 71 nett and handicap 09 Qambar Somji was clinging to third position on 73 nett.
