Former Kenya Volleyball Federation League (men) champions General Service Unit have withdrawn from next month’s (March 15-28) African Club Championship in Tunisia due to unavoidable circumstances.

GSU’s withdrawal leaves champions Prisons Kenya as the country’s only representative at the upcoming continental show-piece.

According to head coach Gideon Tarus, whose team started training on February 6, their main target this season will be to reclaim the national title they lost to rivals Prisons, last year in Mombasa.

“It is unfortunate that we will not be travelling to Tunisia due to some unavoidable circumstances. But I think that will also give us more time to focus on the league. We played very well last year, but a few mistakes at the end cost us. Our mission this year is to start off strongly and finish strongly,” Tarus told Feverpitch.

“Everything is going on very well and the boys are responding positively to training. We want to prove to the nation what we are made of.”

Tarus further confirmed the availability of the experienced trio of Brian Meli (setter), Stanley Chumba (left attacker) and Shadrack Misiko (middle-blocker), who missed a better part of last season, for the 2017 KVF League first leg in Nyeri (March 3-5).
