Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have put his touchline strop behind him - by buying a puppy.

The Real Madrid star was clearly unhappy after being taken off by boss Zinedine Zidane during their 2-2 draw at Las Palmas - a decision which even provoked a response from his mother Dolores.

But he appears to be back to his old cheery self after visiting a kennel shortly after the draw.

Ronaldo posted a snap with the pug and his son Cristiano Jr, grinning away.

But the Portuguese has endured a rough start to the season.

Ronaldo missed Real's opening fixtures through injury before being hooked by Zidane.

However Zidane defended his decision to remove the Ballon d'Or winner, feeling he needed the rest.

"I know he always wants to play and always wants to stay on the field," said Zidane.

"But I also have to think about the players and for me it was best to rest and think about Tuesday.

"I have to take him off sometimes and tonight we did it. That isn't going to change what we are going to continue to do."
