Kenyan Premier League leaders Tusker FC surged ahead in their bid to win the title by beating stubborn Muhoroni Youth 2-1 in a tough match at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru yesterday.

The result saw the brewers increase their points’ tally to 48 points from 25 matches, five ahead of defending champions Gor Mahia who will play Sofapaka at Nyayo National Stadium tomorrow.

Tusker head coach Paul Nkata said the league was still tricky and tough and it was not time to celebrate yet since the title chase would go down to the wire.

He described Gor Mahia as the main threat to their title ambitions.

“Despite the victory, the league is still tough and we cannot predict its winners. But we are equal to the task of winning it despite the tough competition ahead,” he said.

Muhoroni Youth coach John Bobby Ogolla blamed his players for missing obvious chances that could have made all the difference.

“My defenders conceded easy goals after we had outplayed them (Tusker) in their territory in the second half. Strikers squandered too many opportunities,” he said.

Tusker scored their first goal in the 7th minute through Anthony Ndolo. That goal increased their momentum and it did not come as a surprise four minutes later when George Mandela increased the tally for the brewers after being put through by midfielder Noah Wafula.

The consolation goal for the sugar millers came in the 55th minute through Paul Muchika.
