Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has come out of retirement - to play in the Premier Futsal League in India.

Scholes will join former Barcelona and Chelsea star Deco in playing in the new indoor league, of which Luis Figo is president and India cricketer Virat Kohli is an ambassador. Futsal great Falcao will also play a part.

Premier Futsal's Facebook page confirmed that Scholes, 41, was joining the competition on Thursday morning, report the Manchester Evening News.

Scholes, an 11-time Premier League champion, is one of United's greatest players and initially retired from professional football after the club's 19th title win in 2011.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson's failure to sign a replacement and decision to overlook the budding Paul Pogba led to Scholes' return to football in the January 2012 FA Cup tie at City.

Since retiring for good in May 2013, Scholes has become one of English football's most outspoken pundits and was a newspaper columnist for a season at the Independent.

He enjoyed a series of Premier League title wins at Manchester United

Along with his Class of '92 teammates - and Phil Neville - Scholes is a co-owner at non-league Salford City.

The former midfielder returned to United as a member of Ryan Giggs' coaching staff during his four-game caretaker stint in 2014 but Scholes was not retained by Louis van Gaal.
