Thomas Vermaelen has been lined up as a summer transfer target by Liverpool chiefs, according to the Daily Express.

The 30-year-old defender has failed to break into the Barcelona team after injuries tarnished his chances since his move from Arsenal in 2014.

Liverpool will now compete with Chelsea, West Ham and Besiktas for his signature, as it is believed that he could leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Besiktas are already believed to have opened talks for a transfer and could be the most attractive option, as if they maintain their place on top of the Turkish Super Lig, they will play in the Champions League group stage next season.
