Kenyan boxers are not relenting in their quest to qualify for the Olympic Games in August.

The pugilists, who are taking part in the Africa Olympic qualifiers in Cameroon, received a boost after two more boxers advanced to the second round.

With all eyes trained on the Rio Games, the two Kenyans; Elly Ajowi and Christine Ongare delivered a clutch of brilliant performances to overpower their opponents and inch closer to the medal brackets.

Former Commonwealth silver medallist Ajowi showed little mercy against his Cameroonian opponent, Christian Tsoye, to win on points in the heavy weight category.

In the women’s flyweight match, Christine Ongare proceeded to the second round after she defeated Lewissia Nzamba of Gambia.

However, top-seed Benson Gicharu had his dreams of boxing in Rio shattered after he lost to unseeded Emmanuel Ngoma of Zambia in bantamweight category.

Another Kenyan to make an early exit was Simon Mulinge in flyweight after he lost to Nigeria’s Muyideen Oyakojo. In women’s lightweight, Teresia Wanjiru lost to Hasnaa Lachgar of Mauritius through a technical knockout.

On day one, Nick Okoth defeated Lesotho’s Mohlerepe Qhobosheane.
