Arsenal to be without eight injured players for must-win Champions League tie against Dinamo Zagreb

England: Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal are likely to be missing eight players for their crunch midweek Champions League clash.

The Gunners host Dinamo Zagreb in Group F on Tuesday, needing victory to keep alive their qualification hopes.

Wenger says midfielders Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta are both set to be unavailable after hobbling off in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at West Brom.

Influential anchorman Coquelin left The Hawthorns on crutches and is sweating on results of a knee scan amid fears he could be out up to three months, while Arteta injured a calf.

And Wenger revealed both Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are unlikely to be fit in time to return from their knocks to face the Croatians.

In addition to that quartet, Arsenal are also without crocks Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky.

Wenger said: “It looks difficult, I believe, to have players come back Tuesday night.

“I can rotate a bit within the squad, but Ramsey will be short and Chamberlain will be short — and they are the two closest [to being fit].”

Wenger called the loss to the Baggies a “nightmare” as they suffered injuries, scored an own goal and missed a penalty en-route to a painful defeat.

They led from Olivier Giroud’s opener before trailing at the break to James Morrison’s equaliser and an own goal from Arteta.

Then Joel Campbell missed a sitter before Santi Cazorla blew a late penalty in astonishing fashion as he slipped taking it.

Wenger added: “It is severe disappointment. We want to bounce back. Now we cannot change it and the only thing we can do is bounce back on Tuesday night.”

Midfielder Mathieu Flamini said: “The penalty, it can happen and Santi falling… there is nothing you can do.

“We tried and tried and tried until the last minute but we can’t give any excuses - today we lost the three points.

"It’s a shame because we started the game well, we went 1-0 up and then after they scored twice before half time it became more difficult for us.

“We tried to push on in the second half, we had some opportunities but of course it is disappointing because we didn’t get any points.

"Sometimes it happens and now it is important to recover and focus on the next game.”
