Jurgen Klopp will meet Liverpool's owners within the next 24 hours to finalise arrangements before flying to the UK as the club's new manager.

Klopp is likely to be unveiled on Friday — and according to Anfield legend and fellow German Didi Hamann, it won't be a moment too soon.

Hamann believes former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp is perfect to lift the spirits on Merseyside, after what he sees as a mood so flat that it has affected morale.

He said: “The place has been like a morgue for a long time now, and it needed a lift from somewhere and that’s why the change of manager was a logical thing to do.

“The expectations and the mood couldn’t be any further down than it is at the moment at Anfield, so it is a great time to come.

"I don’t think with his appointment Liverpool will become title contenders overnight but you need to have a lift from somewhere and I think he can do this.”

Klopp has agreed, in principle, a three-year deal with an option for a further season, and will now meet chief executive Ian Ayre and the rest of the Anfield top brass to discuss plans moving forward.

The 48-year-old German, who has two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final on his CV, has agreed to work within the club's current structure.

He has told the Reds' owners he has already run the rule over the squad and has seen enough to feel he wouldn't require too many new faces to be added in the January transfer window.

Klopp will fly to England on Thursday and will meet those players not away on international duty and the rest of the Anfield hierarchy, with the plan being to unveil him on Friday.

He has already spoken with principal owner John W Henry and explained his vision for the future, insisting he can do the same at Anfield as he did at Dortmund.
