New Manchester United signing Anthony Martial made his France debut this evening, as they beat Portugal 1-0 in a friendly.

Martial came off the bench to replace reported Arsenal summer target Karim Benzema in the 74th minute, with the game still scoreless.

Southampton's Jose Fonte brought down Antoine Griezmann as the clocked ticked down, and Mathieu Valbuena struck home the free kick with less than six minutes remaining to give France the victory.

Elsewhere, it was a horrible night for Scotland in Euro 2016 qualifying, as they lost 1-0 in Georgia, while goals from Cyrus Christie, Shane Long and two from Robbie Keane gave the Republic of Ireland a 4-0 victory in Gibraltar.

Germany's 3-1 victory over Poland, thanks to a Mario Gotze double and a Thomas Muller goal, means they are two points clear of the Poles at the top of Group D, with Ireland in third on 12 points and Scotland a point behind in fourth.
