Arsene Wenger has promised Arsenal fans he IS still trying to bring in new players.

The end of the summer transfer window is less than a week away and so far Wenger has only brought in one first team player - goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Having scored just two goals in their opening three Premier League games, fans have been crying out for reinforcements up front, and it appears Wenger hasn't given up hope of doing just that.

“I’m available 24 hours a day," he said. "I have a whole team behind me working round the clock."

The Frenchman admitted that the club have targets but that he was "not very confident" of getting them,

He added: "We are not close [to signing anyone]."

However, Wenger revealed he would keep an open mind until the end of the window.

“You have specific targets and then another becomes available because of something else,” he said

Should Arsenal fail to sign a new striker before the end of the window, they will at least have Danny Welbeck back available soon.

"Welbeck is progressing well," said Wenger. "He should return after the international break."

The Gunners travel to Newcastle on Saturday looking for just their second win of the season.
