Manchester United target Sergio Ramos has broken his silence and poured cold water on claims that he is close to an Old Trafford move.

The Real Madrid defender has become United's number one target as they look to upgrade their centre-backs this summer, and was reportedly furious at the Bernabeu club for rejecting Manchester United's initial bid for his services.

Reports in Spain have also claimed that the Premier League giants are the only club Ramos is willing to join if he leaves Spain , shunning interest from Manchester City.

But Ramos has finally spoken, saying he "is not negotiating with anyone."

When asked by Spanish television, the 29-year-old defender distanced himself from talks but stopped short of committing himself to Real Madrid. Ramos' strained relationship with club president Florentino Perez is understood to be behind his unsettled state.

A poll of Madrid fans this week revealed that 55 per cent of them now believe Ramos should be sold.

United had a bid of £30million for Ramos rejected by Real, but the poll could pave the way for a second - and ultimately successful – offer from the Reds.

Real fans were initially opposed to the idea of selling skipper Ramos, but of 25,000 who voted in the poll, conducted by Spanish newspaper AS, more than half backed the decision to let him go.
