Nathaniel Clyne is set to undergo a Liverpool medical ahead of the completion of his £12.5million move from Southampton.

The England right-back is expected on Merseyside on Monday and will put pen to paper on a five-year contract this week, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool agreed a deal with Saints last week and the formalities can now be completed following Clyne’s return from holiday.

The 24-year-old defender will become Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer following the acquisitions of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Roberto Firmino.

Boss Brendan Rodgers had pinpointed Clyne as the perfect replacement for Glen Johnson, who has left the club as a free agent.

Liverpool’s initial offer of £10million for Clyne was rejected in May but they returned with a higher bid and Saints reluctantly agreed to do business.

Clyne was down to the final year of his existing contract and with his heart set on a move to Anfield had made it clear he wouldn’t sign an extension at St Mary’s.
