Barcelona 'show interest' in Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Ander Herrera

Barcelona are weighing up a move for Wayne Rooney - one of four Manchester-based players on their radar, according to reports in Spain.

SPORT claims the Catalan giants are considering a bid for the United skipper, along with team-mates Juan Mata and Ander Herrera, plus City star David Silva.

While a deal for Rooney may seem unlikely, the latter trio have all moved to the Premier League from Spain and may well welcome the chance to return to their homeland.

Club legend Xavi will depart the Nou Camp in the summer and a midfield replacement will be at the top of Luis Enrique's priority list.

Silva, 29, joined Man City from Valencia in 2010 and has racked up over 200 appearances for the club, alongside two league titles.

He agreed a new long-term contract in August ="http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/david-silva-insists-hes-happy-5431962">and stated in March that he had no plans to move on<, although that is unlikely to stop Barca's approach.

After struggling for opportunities in the first-half of the campaign, Mata has played a key role in United's revival under Louis van Gaal. The former Chelsea man has scored eight times this term, including three in his last five games.

Of the three, Herrera appears the more feasible long-term option, despite only arriving at Old Trafford last summer.

The Spaniard failed to break into the first-team up until recently and with United closing in on Ilkay Gundogan, Herrera may find himself back on the sidelines next term.

Any deal is of course subject to Barca's transfer ban, which prevents them registering any player until January 2016.

The club denied any wrongdoing after an investigation into their past dealings but their appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport was rejected.
