Jamie Carragher has told Arsene Wenger he must strengthen his squad if he is to guide Arsenal to Premier League glory next season.

The Gunners are on a run of eight successive top flight wins and, for the first time in years, finally look capable of mounting a title challenge.

Despite their good form, Wenger's side remain 10 points behind leaders Chelsea due to their poor early season record.

Arsenal have a history of coming good in the second-half of the campaign and Carragher has namechecked a number of players who he feels will add consistency to the Gunners' form.

"This is the summer when Arsenal must go for it and make the big additions that will stop them being nearly-men," wrote Carragher in the Daily Mail.

"Wenger still needs to buy a new No 1 if they are to be title challengers. Petr Cech would be an ideal candidate to come in.

"Why doesn’t he go for Paul Pogba? If they needed to sign Ozil two years ago, their need to sign Pogba this summer is even greater. Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid is 29 and at the peak of his powers. He would be ideal at the heart of the defence."

Carragher went on to hail Olivier Giroud but said Wenger should aim at improving on his striking options.

He added: "Imagine what Luis Suarez, Sergio Aguero or Karim Benzema could do for Arsenal?"
