Coach Bobby Williamson refuses to give up on team

Kenya's Under-23 team may have lost to Egypt 3-0 on Sunday in an All-Africa games qualifier match but coach Bobby Williamson believes they should have done better.

Speaking a day after the team returned home, Williamson said the results do not reflect the reality on the pitch.

Williamson, who also handles the senior national team, has however, admitted that they face a tough task in the return match after two weeks.

"We played very well and held on for a good part of the match. Conceding a goal at the stroke of half time just took us out of the game. Then they were awarded a dubious penalty and you have a feeling that it was an unfair result when you consider what the boys put in," he said.

Regarding the team's chances in the return match, Williamson admitted, it will be difficult to score four goals. The coach ha since recalled Sofapaka forward Enock Agwanda as well as Gor Mahia's Timothy Otieno to the team.

"It is a difficult return match for us but we will try and bow out with some pride if it comes to that," he said.

Elsewhere, Gor Mahia coach Frank Nuttall has admitted his side, was poor against CNaPS of Madagascar despite going through to the first round of the champions league.

Gor lost the match 3-2 but qualified on away goals rule. Nuttall told the club's official website that they took too long to settle in the match and as a result struggled to win.

"Our performance was poor because we took long to settle in the game. We lost total concentration in first half and our opponents capitalised on that to score quick goals. We knew we had to come out strongly in the second half and that's what we did to contain them," he said.
