Charlton Athletic have revealed why a couple were filmed having sex inside their stadium.

The clip, which shows a man and woman romping in the centre circle of The Valley, was produced by the club's marketing department.

A club spokesperson told The Mirror bosses decided the publicity stunt would be a 'good idea' to promote pitch hire at their stadium during May.

The footage was taken from a 1 minute 20 second short advert which you can see in full above.

It shows a romancing couple stumbling through the streets just before midnight on Saturday night.

The man pushes the blonde against the wall before noticing one of the doors was still open.

The randy duo then make a dash for the centre circle where they strip off their clothes and she climbs on top.

But just as the pair begin to get down to business, the floodlights come on and the woman looks up startled.

A voiceover is then heard saying: "Fancy scoring at The Valley in May? Contact the sales team now to book the pitch for your team."

A club spokesperson said: "After an internal investigation, we can confirm that the footage was taken from an asset being produced by the Charlton Athletic Football Club Marketing Department as part of an initiative to promote pitch hire at The Valley during May.

"The final video has been fast tracked in order to provide full context to the footage and we are happy to take this opportunity to clear up any confusion caused."

A Vine video uploaded yesterday claims the randy duo 'broke into' The Valley football stadium in London in the early hours.
