It was a tale of missed chances as Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Power Dynamos in yesterday’s international friendly match at the Nyayo National Stadium.

K’ogalo squandered two penalties in both halves, with the Zambian side converting their penalty and capitalising on the hosts’ defensive frailties to emerge the winners.

Gor could have taken the lead in the 25th minute after the Dynamos defender handled the ball in the area, but keeper Joel Kanyiba saved Kenya U23 striker Timothy Otieno’s spot-kick.

The visitors responded immediately, with Jimmy Ndhlovu dancing through Gor’s defence, but he shot wide before his effort on the half-hour mark was saved by goalkeeper Jerim Onyango.

The visitors' efforts were rewarded on the stroke of halftime through Kennedy Mudenda’s penalty kick after Collins Okoth fouled Govenda Simwala.

In the 55th minute, Alex Ng’onga received a pass from his half, initiated a counter-attack and delivered a fine cross for Richard Kasonde to double the lead before Ronald Omino was brought down in the area by Thomas Nyaride, but new signing Michael Olunga blasted wide the resulting penalty.

Luka Lungu made it 3-0 for Dynamos from a counter-attack in the 79th minute to hand Gor their second pre-season defeat after they were beaten 2-0 by Bandari a few weeks ago.

Gor assistant coach Frank Ouna pointed out his side’s blunt striking but assured fans all would be well before their tie assignments.

“We created many chances and won two penalties but missed both. It’s unfortunate we missed the penalties, but with the arrival of Meddie Kagere I am confident we will start scoring.”
