Wenger ready to splash the cash in January

London, England: Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is ready and willing to spend Arsenal’s money – if the timing and the deal is right.

Wenger has come under fire from a section of supporters who feel the manager is reluctant to lay out big transfer fees to compete with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

But Wenger refutes that accusation and declared he is anything but tight when it comes to moving into the transfer market.

He can point to the £63million he splashed in the close season to bring the likes of Alexis Sanchez (£32million from Barcelona), Danny Welbeck (£16million from Manchester United) and Mathieu Debuchy (£12million from Newcastle).

But he also made it clear that he would never overspend to jeopardise the future of the club.

“What I don’t like is to spend money that I do not have. Now I have money so there is no problem spending it at all. What I fought against was spending money that would have put the future of the club in danger. If we find the right player, we will do it. Without any doubt.

“There is a huge difference between the perception people have of me and the reality. I am not scared to spend money. If you go out with me one night, you will understand that!”
