Angel di Maria very close to joining Manchester United and wants to wear No.7

Guillem Balague claims that the winger will wear the famous no.7 shirt at Old Trafford.

Manchester United may look to appoint a Director of Football to oversee transfers – even though Angel Di Maria looks to be bound for Old Trafford.
The Argentine winger has told friends in Spain that he has accepted a £180,000-a-week offer to join United.
And vice-chairman Ed Woodward was last night in talks with Real Madrid over a £50million deal after Di Maria told the European champions he wants wear the famous No.7 shirt.
Woodward is desperate to push through the deal. And LVG has also made it clear that he wants former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong to join his red revolution before the transfer window closes.
De Jong, who is 30 in November, doesn't fir the age profile laid down by United's owners.
But Van Gaal is adamant that paying AC Milan £8m would be wise business on the evidence of the opening day defeat to Swansea.
Both deals would push United's summer spending past £130m. But for the third transfer window since Woodward replaced David Gill as deal maker, their recruitment process has carried an air of desperation.
Questions will be asked about whether Woodward is the right man moving forward, regardless of what happens in the next eight days.
It is understood that United's owners - the Glazer family - will undertake a thorough review of the club's failing recruitment policy.
Woodward almost tripled revenues when in charge of United's commercial operation, but since stepping up last summer his lack of football expertise has been a problem - although Di Maria could help change that.
