Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria

Cristiano Ronaldo has apparently urged Real Madrid to halt Angel Di Maria's move to Manchester United.

The Argentine midfielder has been widely linked with a move away from the Bernabeu this summer with Paris Saint-Germain rivalling United for his signature.

Indeed, reports from France on Tuesday indicated that the moneybags French champions had a loan deal already in place ahead of a blockbuster £52million permanent switch next year.

But despite his future currently being firmly up in the air, Di Maria was selected by boss Carlo Ancelotti for the Spanish Super Cup tie with rivals Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening, with the 26-year-old coming on with 10 minutes to go.

And Marca report that following the 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo, along with teammate Sergio Ramos, pleaded with club president Florentino Perez not to sell the midfield maestro.

The duo are two of the most influential figures in the Los Blancos dressing room, but it is as yet unknown if they managed to colour Perez's decision or not.

Unlike Sami Khedira, who is believed to be being frozen out after his refusal to sign a new deal, Di Maria remains a fixture in Ancelotti's first-team squad despite the additions of both James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.
