Former national football coach, Mohammed Kheri, has urged football officials to go back to the drawing board if Harambee Stars will return to winning ways.

Kheri, who coached Stars in 1990s, said Kenya should pull out of senior competitions and concentrate on Under-17 and Under-20 teams.

"They should groom the two sides, expose them to international football to gel before thinking of senior competitions," he said.

"Other countries have embraced youth programmes with relative success and are overtaking us, even some that we were very much ahead of only recently," said Kheri.

Harambee Stars were eliminated by Lesotho, with a poorer Fifa ranking, from the qualification rounds of the 2015 African Cup of Nations. The last time they were in the continent's showpiece event was 2004 in Tunisia.
