New pages were written after new schools emerged to out-muscle and reign supremacy over well-established schools during the Mombasa region sub-county school games.

It has been a norm for established schools to dominate sporting activities but those days of dominance seemed to be gone.

Subsequently, it's clear that the satisfaction of football especially at secondary school cannot match the thrills of victory when the winners shed tears of joy after wading through tough opposition to the top.

More surprises are expected when the schools converge at Kwale High school from July 16 to 20 for the Mombasa region games.

Some of the surprises were witnessed during the Kwale County games at Samburu Secondary School where little-known teams emerged as the future teams to watch.

Tumaini Secondary School, one of the newest schools in Kwale County pulled major surprises.

The school under the management of Thomas Kingoo stunned established schools in both boys and girls volleyball by reaching the finals.

"Proper training was our secret weapon, which enabled us make it to the final. This was unbelievable as we were making our maiden in the county games," said Kingoo.

Tumaini lost 3-1 to defending champions Mivumoni and Msambweni in boys and girls finals respectively.

"The players have gained a lot of experience and confidence and hope to do better next year as most of the players are Form Ones and Twos," Kingoo told Game Yetu.

In boy's football, Samburu also made history after making it to the final before losing 2-0 to former champions Waa High School.

Samburu's coach Omar Logwe said the school has been losing at the sub-county level and it was their first time to play at the county level and reached the final.

History was also written in Mombasa where privately-owned Green Palm Secondary School upset former champions Tononoka Secondary School 2-1 in the final to be the county's flag bearer.

Another champion was born in girl's football at the county after Mwakirunge beat Gremony 2-0 in the final. Mbaraki Girls, Al-Falsy and Coast Girls High School have been dominating girl's football but this time a new champion has emerged.

In Kilifi, Kasidi Secondary School also made history after they defeated former champions Kilifi Mixed 2-1 to win the boys football title same as Kijire of Taita Taveta who dismissed regulars Shimbo 1-0 to win the county girls trophy.

The excellent performance of the emerging schools clearly puts the forthcoming Mombasa region games a notch higher as the schools travel to Kwale next week with their heads held high with a lot of expectations.
