Kenya Commercial Bank received Sh100,000 after winning the 24th edition of the Top Fry Great Rift 10 Aside Championships at Nakuru Athletic Club at the weekend.

It was song and dance as the bankers received the money from the event’s organisers Menengai Oil Refinery Limited who injected Sh4 million into the event.

KCB Coach Curtis Olago, who praised his playing unit said: “After consultations with the management, a decision will be made on how to motivate the players using the money.”

The bankers came from three tries down to overcome Strathmore Leos with a sudden death try after a 15-15 tie to win 20-15.

The bankers also produced the Most Valuable Player in Kennedy Moseti (pictured) who scored the vital tries that destroyed Strathmore Leos.

Leos’ Brian Mwangovya was the top scorer while Stanley Lunani of Mean Machine emerged as The Most Promising Player.

Retain trophy

The bankers showed their intent to retain the trophy, hitting Bungoma RFC 33-0, dismissing Comras 38-12, before dispatching Egerton 59-0 to top in Pool ‘A’ with the maximum nine points to qualify for the Main Cup quarters.

In the quarters, the bankers defeated Western Bulls before edging Mean Machine 5-0 in the semis.

Leos hit Homeboyz 7-5 in a closely contested semi-final duel after humbling Top Fry Nakuru RFC 12-10 in the Main Cup quarters.

Top Fry Nakuru RFC dropped to  the Plate Competition, which they won by thrashing Western Bulls 14-0.

Kabras Sugar RFC won the Bowl title after dispatching Mwamba 10-0 in the finals.

In the Shield Competition, Masaku RFC lifted the trophy with a 21-0 win over KCA University.

In Division Two of the Main Cup Competition, Top Fry Nakuru RFC won the title after a  19-0 win over Kenya Methodist University. Kisumu RFC won the Bowl Competition after thrashing Naivasha 57-0.
