Danson Kago struck the first hat-trick of the Kenyan Premier League 2014 season as Sofapaka ended Tusker’s unbeaten run in the domestic league after thrashing them 4-2 in a high octane, but entertaining six goal thriller at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos yesterday.

The brewers dominated possession in the early proceedings, but Jesse Were and Andrew Tololwa failed to beat Sofapaka custodian David Okello in one-on-one situations.

Kago broke the deadlock in the 11th minute from goal mouth melee before tapping in Yusuf Juma’s cross from the left with Tusker keeper Samuel Odhiambo well beaten.

Were had a chance to pull a goal back from Luke Oluoch’s throw-in, but instead of shooting, he opted to pass the ball to Ismael Dunga, who had replaced Kevin Kimani.

Burly striker Enock Agwanda, could have doubled the scoreline in the 56th minute, but his goal was ruled offside.

Second half substitute Clifton Miheso outpaced Tusker defender on the left and delivered a fantastic cross for Kago to score his third goal of the match.

Just after the hour mark, Llyod Wahome rose above his marker to head home Osborne Monday’s free-kick at the edge of the box and then executed a powerful shot in the 80th minute to make 3-2.

But with less than six minutes remaining, Agwanda unleashed a thunderous strike from Humphrey Mieno’s free kick to end Tusker’s eight game unbeaten run.

Tusker still lead the log with 18 points, two ahead of third placed Sofapaka.
