Kenya Prisons won all their group matches to sail into the semi-finals of the ongoing East Africa Netball Senior Club Championships.

Prisons, who are also the defending champions, run riot over Jiji Arusha 101-1 in their last group  match at Taifa National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Kenyans won their opening match 43-32 against Zanzibar’s Jeshi la Kujenga Nchi before humiliating Makanga from Tanzania 73-3 to sail into today’s semi-finals.

Coach Everline Cherono says her team is on form and is optimistic of retaining the regional trophy.

“We have had an impressive performance, we wanted as many goals as possible to be comfortable in the championship. The boys are confident and I believe we are going to retain the regional title we won last year at home,” Cherono told FeverPitch.

“I believe we are going to play even better in the next matches,” Cherono added.

Smooth run

Another Kenyan team, Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (MOIC&T), continued with their smooth run in the championships with a 39-30 win against Police of Uganda in the women’s category.

Ganec, also from Kenya, found the going tough, losing their second match in a row 39-19 against Police form Zanzibar.

National Insurance Corporation from Uganda, who are the women’s defending champions, are tipped to give MOIC&T a run for their money in the championship.

Kenya Netball Federation Secretary General Lilian Anupi said: “Our teams are playing well despite the stiff competition especially in the women’s category, but we hope to come home with the two trophies to start our season,” said the official.

Prisons and MOIC&T have dominated the sport locally, winning  every trophy from tournaments for the last three years.
