Gunners midfielder Ozil went back to see family and friends in Germany and is due to return to Arsenal's training headquarters on Tuesday. He hopes to be fit for Saturday's trip to Stoke.

Wenger rarely gives his squad time off during the season but clearly players like Ozil have been pushed to the limit in recent weeks and they have been given an extra rest ahead of the tough fixture list.

Arsenal's Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey is targeting the Tottenham game on March 16 as a potential comeback, meanwhile.

Ramsey has been out since Christmas with a thigh injury and broke down in his last comeback so will not be rushed back this time. But Wenger is hoping that Ramsey will be back for the crucial run-in as Arsenal chase the title and FA Cup.
