Regional novices boxing championships punches off the Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) this year’s calendar of events.

Releasing the calendar in Mombasa, BAK President John Kameta said the regional novices championships will be held by all the affiliates on February 6-8.

He said the regions will  select boxers for the National Novices Championships to be held at Nairobi’s Dallas between February 20-22.

“We have a tight programme 2014 and we urge boxers to remain physically fit for national trials for various international and continental events,” said Kameta.

He said the regional inter-mediate championship is scheduled for March 6-8 at branch levels.

Kameta said the first continental event for 2014 will be the Zone Three Boxing Championships set for March in Cameroon.

After Cameroon, Kenyan boxers will take part in the National intermediate Championships at Ndenderu, Nairobi from March 20-22.

The first global event 2014 will see Kenya participate in the AIBA Youth World Championships from April 6-20 in Bulgaria before the first leg of the national league start on April 10-12 in Mombasa.

Kameta also announced that the inter-regional championships start on April 26 with Kenya Police travelling to Mombasa to face Coast combined before the inter-regional meet heads to Nakuru, Ndenderu and Kisumu.

The Africa Youth Games are set for May 22-31 in Botswana, while the second national leg moves to Kisumu from May 8-10.

The league will take a break to pave way for the Commonwealth national team selection on May 22-24 in Nakuru.

The President said after the national selection, the boxers will gauge themselves by participating in the second inter-regional championships in Kisumu, Ndenderu, Nakuru and Mombasa before the national team travel to Scotland for the Commonwealth Games set for July 23 to August 3.

Kameta also said Kenya would be represented in the AIBA Women World Championships in Canada in September and said the national selection for the women team is scheduled for August 7-9 at Dallas, Nairobi.

The last event for 2014 is the inter-services championships set for Nairobi after the conclusion of the fifth leg of the national league on October 30 to November 1 in Nakuru.

At the same time, Changamwe member of parliament Omar Mwinyi has pledged to support boxing at Mombasa County.

He said he would come on board and support the Coast team when traveling for away tournaments.
